Agate

The name Agate comes from the Achates River in Sicily, where the most beautiful specimens of antiquity came from. The word itself means "good". Agates have been known for 8,000 years. At many excavations, decorative and utility items made of agate have been dug up. The ribbon structure of the Agates and their sensational deliverance decide about their beauty and popularity in jewelry. The concentric layering additionally emphasizes the beautiful colors. These minerals come in many color varieties and their colors depend on the infixes of various minerals. They are found all over the world, also in Poland. Most of them, however, are in not very attractive colors. Agate is easily and permanently dyed, interestingly only with natural dyes. Various materials are used for this purpose: from ordinary sugar and heat to chemicals found in nature. Very often, such treatment emphasizes the natural color, to make it more expressive. Agates have served as amulets and decorations since antiquity. Their heyday fell in the Baroque period. Now they are experiencing a kind of renaissance. From antiquity, it was believed in the power of agates. They played a protective role, gave strength, inspired and supported longevity. The whole range of their beneficial powers changed with the colors. Beautiful deliverance is displayed by beads and cabochons. In matt or polished surfaces, the layered colors are eye-catching. Agate beads blend beautifully with uniform semi-precious stones such as onyx or obsidian and with pearls. Agates are suitable for the production of earrings, necklaces and bracelets.
